PERTH’S Eve Muirhead and Aberdeen’s Tom Brewster sit atop the rankings at the end of the round-robin section of this year’s Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Curling Championships in Perth.

Muirhead completed her round-robin programme with a 9-1 win over Murrayfield’s Gina Aitken yesterday to record her seventh win of the week and keep her unbeaten record.

She will now face Scottish and world junior champion Hannah Fleming in today’s Page 1 v 2 play-off game, after Lockerbie’s Fleming beat former world champion Jackie Lockhart from Aberdeen 9-5 in the last round-robin session. At the same time, Kerry Barr from Murrayfield beat Stranraer’s Gail Munro 9-6 and Greenacres’ Jennifer Martin beat fellow Greenacres skip Lauren Baxter 5-3.

Lockhart, Barr and Martin are tied on four wins each and will be involved in two tie-breakers – with Lockhart playing the winner between Barr and Martin – to determine the last available slot in the Page play-off line-up.

The men’s situation is clear-cut. Defending champion Brewster had a comfortable 5-2 win over Scottish junior champion Kyle Smith from Perth to rank first overall, with just one loss from his round-robin programme. Stirling’s Logan Gray beat Perth’s Glen Muirhead 7-2 to finish second, and he will meet Brewster’s team in today’s Page 1 v 2 game.

Aberdeen’s David Edwards will face Perth’s Warwick Smith in the Page 3 v 4 game.
