Moore claims victory in Las Vegas

RYAN Moore ended a three-year wait for his second title on the PGA Tour by holding off Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge to take a one-shot victory at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

The 30-year-old Las Vegas resident scooped the trophy and a cheque for $810,000 (£502,000) at his home city tournament, finishing on 24-under-par 260 following a closing 66. De Jonge was a shot back after a 67, while Jonas Blixt of Sweden was third on 20-under 264, having rounded off his week with a disappointing 70.

The trio had been front-running throughout the tournament and went off together in the final group for Sunday’s final round. Ultimately De Jonge paid the price for parring all the way home after making birdie at the long 13th hole, at which point he and Moore stood level on 23 under. Moore had a long putt for eagle at the 16th and sent it to within a foot, sinking the birdie chance to go to the top of the leaderboard on his own, which is where he stayed after making par at 17 and 18.

“It’s been an unbelievable week,” Moore said. “I’ve had such great support with my family and friends out here.”

Moore first tasted victory in August 2009 at the Wyndham Championship.
