Modern Pentathlon: Scots pair cruise into pentathlon final

MHAIRI Spence and Freyja Prentice are among a record eight Brits who have qualified for today's final of the women's modern pentathlon World Cup in Medway, Kent.

Spence, from Inverness, won 19 of her 27 fencing bouts in the semi as well as doing well in the swim. After a solid run/shoot she qualified second with 3912 points.

Prentice, 19, was also second in her semi final. The Inverurie athlete was another who had a good overall record in the fencing and went into the final event in fifth place. A fine run/shoot lifted Prentice up to second, with a total of 3936 points.
