Mixed fortunes for Scots in Netherlands

BOWLS: Scotland suffered a mixed bag of results as they got their challenge up and running at the Ons Kinnehim club in Haarlem in the Netherlands yesterday in the Dutch International Open.

The mixed fours – Becky Craig, Lauren Baillie, Neil Speirs and Robert Grant – lost their opening game 17-13 against the Spanish ex-pats team comprising Lynn Greenland, Yvonne Briden, Steven Pearson and John Breslin, before Kirkliston’s Speirs and Grant, from the Overton and Waterloo club in Wishaw, beat English duo Robert Palser and Graham Robinson 22-16, and Craig, from Causewayhead, and Cockenzie’s Baillie beat the Dutch 18-14. Today, the USA are the opposition in the mixed, both teams face the host nation in the pairs and the women also face England.
