Michael McCreadie picked to skip British curlers

PARALYMPIC silver medallist Michael McCreadie has been named as the skip of the Great Britain team that will compete in wheelchair curling at the Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver in March.

McCreadie, from Lochwinnoch, is joined by Edinburgh's Tom Killin and Angie Malone from Girvan, who were also members of the team that finished second in Turin four years ago.

Strathaven's Aileen Neilson, who comes from a family of curlers and has taken leave from her job as a primary school teacher to train for the Games, and Jim Sellar from Bellshill, a veteran of four World Championships for Scotland, complete the team.

ParalympicsGB chief executive Phil Lane said of the team: "We are confident that they will make us proud and we hope that the team will also bring home a medal for the second successive Games."

Including his experience at previous summer Games, this will be the seventh Paralympic appearance for McCreadie. "It's always been an ambition to skip a Scotland team and I've achieved that, so this is just a further honour to skip for Great Britain – I never thought I'd achieve that," he said yesterday.

The Winter Paralympics will be staged from 12-21 March.
