Michael Jamieson looks on song for Europe

LONDON Olympics silver medallist Michael Jamieson was in dominant form yesterday as a prestigious cast list was unveiled for December’s Duel in the Pool, the first of two major home-town events for the Glasgow man in the next 12 months.

Jamieson, who will swim for the European Allstars against the best of America’s breaststroke exponents at year-ending gala at Tollcross Park, proved his form at the Dubai leg of the World Cup with gold in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 2mins 06.68secs.

News of the 25-year-old’s win came just minutes after the two teams were named for the Duel in the Pool, and the fact that Ryan Lochte will spearhead the visiting challenge should ensure strong ticket sales despite Sky’s live TV coverage.

Lochte, a two-time FINA Swimmer of the Year who owns 11 Olympic medals and nine world titles, is rated America’s top swimmer after the retirement of Michael Phelps and he will team up with four other Olympic champions in Kate Ledecky, Conor Dwyer, Shannon Vreeland and Tyler Clary.

Jamieson, Hannah Miley, Robbie Renwick and Craig McNally are the Scots who have earned selection on the Europe team, which will feature English world medallist Fran Halsall as well as a host of major stars.

French freestyler Camille Muffat won gold, silver and bronze in London last summer, while Denmark’s Lotte Friis was Rebecca Adlington’s main rival throughout her career.

France sends three male Olympic champions in Florent Manaudou, Yannick Agnel and Fabien Gilot, while Dutch woman Ranomi Kromowidjojo won two titles at London 2012.
