Meikle kicks off new era at Penicuik

PENICUIK'S new management team have made their first moves to shake things up at the struggling Premier Division club – signing Liam McKenna from Bonnyrigg and persuading former club captain Kevin Milne to come out of retirement.

"We are delighted with the two signings," said Craig Meikle, now in charge of the team along with Brian Ryrie following the departure of Stuart "Snowy" McKean on the back of a poor run of results.

"I had four years at Bonnyrigg and people speak highly of Liam, who will bring our team a bit of experience from playing in the Super League.

"As for Kevin, he was the club captain when I came to Penicuik and we got on well. Brian knows him even better from his spell as a player here and we've managed to persuade him to come out of retirement.

"I think Kevin was missing the football a bit himself and he'll add that extra bit dig that I feel we have been lacking."

Due to the way the fixtures have worked out, Penicuik don't have a match this weekend but Meikle has been delighted with the response the new management team have received from their players.

"They've been tremendous," he added. "The effort we've had in training has been unbelievable and Brian's first impression since coming back is that he can't believe we're in such a lowly position in the league.

"It's a nightmare having to wait for our first game but we're having a full-scale training match tomorrow and I am confident we've got good enough players to get us up the table."
