Meadows tennis club at the doubles

Meadows tennis club are to hold a doubles tournament this Saturday (2.00-4.30pm) as part of the Edinburgh Festival of Sport.

Entries are still being accepted and the format means playing partners are rotated.

The event goes ahead against a background of innovation at the 16-court centre, the Evening News reporting in July that moves are afoot to install
floodlighting and upgrade changing facilities.

Meadows club president David Wood has welcomed the changes, saying: “The proposals are currently with the planning authorities but it would make a big difference to our club to be able to continue under floodlights during the winter.

“Presently, we have 112 members and have added a second women’s team this season. There are also three men’s teams taking part in the East Leagues but there is no facility for changing at the club.”

Tomorrow will see more than 100 primary school children given an introduction to tennis at the Meadows under the AEGON schools programme while further details of Saturday’s tournament are available from [email protected]
