McCoist shrugs off snubs from Rangers' signing targets

Ally McCOIST insists he will not lose any sleep over players who opt for the npower Championship over a move to Rangers.

The Ibrox boss has already lost out on a couple of signing targets as he prepares for his first season at the helm.

Crystal Palace midfielder Neil Danns yesterday agreed a move to Leicester despite interest from the Scottish champions, while another target, Craig Conway, opted for Cardiff.

McCoist said: "It's life. There is no point worrying about things you can't have an effect on and that's one of the things we can't have an effect on.

"If players want to go to the Championship rather than come to us, I don't have a problem with it, I really don't. It's a little bit of a disappointment but we just need to move on and that's that."

On lack of signings so far, he added: "I wouldn't say I'm frustrated because I realise that most situations can be very delicate. I realise that probably the majority of boys that you go for, you won't get.

"You have to accept that in management and you have to have back-up plans and we've got back-up plans and we've got targets.

"Although sometimes it can be a little bit of a disappointment and a wee bit frustrating, I'm not overly frustrated because it's something that I expected to happen."

Carlos Cuellar, Kyle Bartley, David Goodwillie and Lee Wallace all remain on McCoist's wanted list.

But one player who appears unlikely to seal a return to Rangers is Kris Boyd, who had a loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season following his move to Middlesbrough.

McCoist said: "It's not something we have spoken about to be honest."

Meanwhile, Rangers' new director of football, Gordon Smith, insists there is no problem between himself and Allan McGregor.

Smith was chief executive of the Scottish Football Association when McGregor, along with Barry Ferguson, was banned from the Scotland team following the "Boozegate" affair.

The goalkeeper has since returned to the national team under Craig Levein and Smith said: "One of the first people I met here last week was Allan McGregor and there is no problem at all in terms of my relationship with the players."
