McClatchey heads Team GB at World University Games

THREE-TIME Olympian Caitlin McClatchey will spearhead the Great Britain team at the World University Games starting in Kazan, Russia, next week.

The 27-year-old Scot has appeared in six Olympic finals, both individual and relay, and last year was seventh in the 200 metres freestyle in London.

McClatchey, who represents the University of Edinburgh, failed to clinch a spot on the World Championship team at the Sheffield trials next week but will be continuing a family tradition, given her mother was a World University Games finalist.

She will be joined by fellow 2012 Olympians Rebecca Turner, 17th in the 200m freestyle last year, of Sheffield Hallam University and Antony James (Plymouth University), who competed in the 100m butterfly at the Aquatics Centre.

Stirling University will be represented by Lewis Smith and Ryan Bennett, and Loughborough by Rachel Lefley and James Broady. The team is completed by Craig Hamilton (Louisiana State University), Megan Gilchrist (Swansea University) and Christopher Steeples (Manchester Metropolitan University).

Meanwhile, another two Scots, Duncan Scott and Suleman Butt, have been included in Team GB at the 12th European Youth Olympic Festival, which takes place in Utrecht, Netherlands, from 14-19 July.
