Matheson chips in with win

LASSWADE'S Ross Matheson scored another brilliant cross country victory in the McCain Cross Challenge at Cardiff, his third in a row following victories in Gateshead and Liverpool, and is already sure of winning the under-17 series with a race still to go.

Matheson, who also won his age group race at the recent Great Edinburgh International in Holyrood Park, covered the course in 18 minutes 34 seconds to finish fully 20sec clear of his nearest challenger Josh Grace (Aldershot).

Another athlete with Lasswade connections, Guy Learmonth, smashed his personal best (PB) with a terrific front run to win the senior 800 metres for the East in 1:51.29 in the Scottish Inter-Regional Indoor Championships at the Kelvin Hall at the weekend.
