Marshall and Foster carry Scots’ hopes

BOWLS: Expectations of a Scottish victory in the Fred Olsen Cruise Lines world pairs at Potters Leisure Resort will rest on the shoulders of defending champions Paul Foster and Alex Marshall. They are the only Scots in today’s semi-final line up after David Gourlay, Jonathan Ross, Stewart Anderson and Darren Burnett all bowed out.

Foster and Marshall survived a rocky start to their match against Welsh qualifiers Daniel Salmon and Neil Collett. They trailed 5-0 but then chalked five shots over the last four ends to share the first set 5-5.

In the second they took a 3-0 lead and stayed in control for the remainder of the match, winning the set and the match 7-4 to set up a semi-final confrontation today against English pair Mark Royal and Andy Thomson.
