Mariajo Uribe edges out Lindsey Wright in Brazil

Colombian Mariajo Uribe shot a six-under 66 to defeat Australian Lindsey Wright by a stroke in the final round of the LPGA Tour's Brazil Cup yesterday.

Uribe, last year's runner-up in the 36-hole event, made seven birdies and a bogey to finish at seven-under at the Itanhanga Golf Club.

Uribe was 5-under after the first seven holes yesterday, then picked up two more birdies and a bogey on the back nine before finishing with four straight pars to secure the victory in the 30-player exhibition tournament.

Wright shot a 4-under 68 to finish second. She birdied No 17 but was not able to make a charge in the final hole.

First-round leader Heather Bowie Young of the United States followed her 66 on Saturday with an even par round that left her tied for fourth.

Catriona Matthew of Scotland, who was defending champion after winning the last staging in 2009, was four back on five-under.
