London 2012 Olympics: Scott’s not so Brash with the ladies now

SCOTT BRASH might have ended his London 2012 swansong yesterday without any medals – or girls for that matter – but the Peebles equestrian rider admitted his Olympic 
debut had been one to savour.

The 26-year-old had already ensured his hero status in the capital 48 hours earlier when he a member of the team that won gold at Greenwich Park.

He also won a legion of extra fans when he revealed his hope that new-found celebrity status would help his pulling power.

Brash had one final chance to enhance his reputation with the ladies as he went for a medal in the individual competition, looking odds-on for a podium finish as he stormed into the final without any penalties.

But his horse, Hello Sanctos, clipped a fence in his final run to leave him in joint fifth.

“I am really annoyed and gutted to end on that note,” said Brash, who rode Hello Sanctos for just 45 minutes before deciding they were a match made in heaven. “My horse had been jumping brilliantly all week. But that’s showjumping. The tiniest of touches can ruin it.

“I will need to look back on the video because the fence I clipped I was either a long six or a short seven stride and I went the six. Usually my horse would jump that all day long. Maybe I was a fraction too deep and maybe I have made a mistake. I can’t fault my horse. He has been brilliant all week.

“I am just annoyed that I have not given the crowd something to cheer because I should have been riding for a gold medal.

“The gold from the team event hasn’t had the good effect on women I had hope for either.”
