Lochaber oust holders to reach historic final

SHINTY: Lochaber knocked holders Kingussie out of the Co-operative MacTavish Cup to book a final date.

After Lochaber lost 6-4 to Kings the week before in the Macaulay Cup, few thought the lower league side would have enough to humble last year’s MacTavish winners.

Lochaber had other ideas, though, and won 2-1 at Spean Bridge. Goalscorer and Scotland international Shaun Nicolson admitted that the players were in shock at the final whistle when they realised just what they had achieved.

“After the game someone said that the last time Lochaber was in a major final was the 1920s so this will go down in club history,” he said.

Nicolson’s penalty strike was added to by Stuart Callison, and Ronald Ross pulled one back in injury time. Lochaber will now face Newtonmore in next month’s televised final.

In the AJG Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup, record winners Inveraray will face Taynuilt after seeing off Bute 6-3 in an epic.
