Linlithgow qualify for the final of Fife & Lothians Cup

Linlithgow ROSE reached the final of the Fife & Lothians Cup last night with a 2-1 win at Broxburn.

Linlithgow had scored a barrowload of goals against Broxburn in two previous friendlies this term but were pushed all the way this time by their hosts.

Steve Manson gave Linlithgow the lead in the first half and the signs were looking good for the Rose.

However, Broxburn pushed hard and were awarded a penalty in the second period. Luck deserted them though when Rose keeper Steven Pinkowski saved Craig Young's effort. But still they battled and Chic Pearson equalised with minutes remaining.

Linlithgow took the ball straight back upfield, however, and Stewart McArthur scored what turned out to be the winner in the dying minutes.

Linlithgow will meet either Penicuik or Bo'ness after both won their quarter-finals last night; Bo'ness overcoming a plucky Sauchie side 2-1 and Penicuik winning 3-2 at Armadale.

Rodger Duffin gave Bo'ness the lead but Sauchie levelled the game with a James Purdie penalty. The winner came from Grant Plenderleith in the second half.

Robbie Feeney put Armadale in front but Charlie Brigain equalised. Prolific striker Johnny Harvey gave Penicuik the lead only for George Bonnar to level again. Harvey then showed his class with the winner to take Penicuik through.

In the South Division, Dalkeith had their game against Spartans switched to tonight with a 7.15pm kick-off at Kings Park.

Haddington were made to suffer against Tranent as they were hammered 6-1, as Paul Harvey grabbed a hat-trick, Marc Cowan scored twice and a Mel Graham added to the scoring to do complete the damage.
