The 22-year-old Scot ran a season’s best of 12.23 seconds but was dethroned by her rival – the world record holder – in a repeat of their 1-2 at last year’s Paralympic Games. It leaves Clegg with two silver medals from France after also finishing runner-up in the 200 metres earlier this week.

“I’m slightly disappointed,” said the blind sprinter. “I’m happy with my performance. Not happy about the result. It was a big ask to do it again after London last year but I can’t ask for much more.”

The Commonwealth Games hopeful will now return to London to compete in Sunday’s Anniversary Games.

Nottingham 16-year-old Sophie Hahn claimed gold in the T38 100m in a new world record time of 13.10secs, which was 0.09secs quicker than the previous world record. In the process she claimed Great Britain’s tenth gold medal of the championships.

Hahn also won silver in the T38 200m final while Northern Ireland’s Michael McKillop took gold, his second of the championships, with victory in the T38 1500m final.
