Leslie loses to Perth potter

Bonnyrigg’s Michael Leslie endured back-to-back defeats to Perth’s Scott Donaldson this weekend as the Perth youngster lifted the third ranking events of the season of both the Scottish Under-21 and Main Tour Snooker Series.

Leslie’s weekend started well with a 4-0 whitewash of Musselburgh’s Ross Muir in the semi-final of the Under-21 event being held at The Creamery in Falkirk, which included a break of 93. However Donaldson proved to be too strong in the final as he made breaks of 66, 61 and 54 on his way to a 5-2 victory to lift the title. Less than 24 hours later, Leslie faced Donaldson again in the semi-final of the Main Tour event at The Locarno Snooker Club in Edinburgh. Despite breaks of 50 and 77, Donaldson made breaks of 50,66 and 94 in a high quality contest as he raced to a 5-2 victory once again.

The young Perth potter was then in great form in the final as he whitewashed Edinburgh’s Stuart Johnstone with breaks of 113, 52, 55, 60 and 92 to win his first Main Tour Ranking event title. “Whilst I am disappointed, Scott is an excellent player and deserves to win his first Main Tour title,” reflected Leslie.
