Lawrie sets up Aberdeen junior base

PAUL Lawrie has opened a new chapter in the continuing development of his successful Junior Foundation by establishing its own base in Aberdeen.

Having been acquired by the former Open champion, the Aspire Golf Centre will now be re-named the ‘Paul Lawrie Golf Centre’ and become the hub of the Foundation’s golfing activities. The centre will also have a number of teaching pros on hand to encourage participation in golf for all levels through children’s and adult summer camps, courses and competitions.

“I’m delighted to be opening the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre at such a fantastic facility here in Aberdeen,” said Lawrie. “It’s a superb place for the Foundation to be based, and will give us the perfect opportunity to get lots more youngsters involved in golf, as well as develop those that have come through our elite squads.

“I’m very thankful to Stewart Spence, my long-term friend and sponsor, for his support in this exciting project, and I know that he shares my continued goals of developing golf in Scotland.”

Robbie Stewart, who had been at Cruden Bay for more than 20 years, has been appointed as the centre’s director of golf. “Robbie will bring vast experience and enthusiasm to the role,” added Lawrie.
