Kris Boyd happy to have last laugh over taunting Hearts fans

When you give it out you have to take it back. That's the advice of Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd after he mocked the home support during his side's victory over Hearts at Murrayfield.

The veteran goalscorer put his side in front midway through the first half of the 2-1 win. Though Esmael Goncalves would equalise for the hosts, Adam Frizzell’s late winner gave the visitors all three points.

After finding the back of the net with a composed front-post finish, Boyd decided to rub it in the noses of the Hearts support.

Jambos fans have eagerly taunted Boyd ever since the ex-Rangers striker attacked the appointment of previous boss Ian Cathro in his newspaper column for the Scottish Sun.

The fanbase got some revenge with several chants directed at the player in a 4-0 win for Cathro’s side in December last year.

Boyd insists he didn’t have any problem with what the supporters said about him. They just had to respect his right to give it back.

He said: “You get pelters and I got it the last time I played Hearts too. When you give it out you have to take it back.

“Football is too serious and you can’t always have a bit of banter with fans.

“Credit to the referee for not booking me because the last time I did something like that celebration I got booked.

“The last time I was through here, obviously not Murrayfield, I took a bit of stick. But in football you always have an opportunity to have a go back. You’ll need to ask the fans if they saw the funny side.

“The most important thing, when the ball hits the back of the net, is the relief that you have scored.

“Credit to the Hearts fans, they had a laugh the last time. But I will leave here with the big smile this time.”
