Kiwi Turley poised for Heriot’s bow

Heriot’s have been cleared to launch a new star into the Scottish rugby premiership 
when they head for Melrose 
tomorrow.

Kiwi Jack Turley will line up on the flank away to 
the champions, having previously turned out for a New Zealand Schools side featuring 2011 World Cup winners Israel Dagg and Sam Whitelock as well as future All Black Zac Guilford.

Phil Smith, coach of Heriot’s, says: “We were looking for a middle row and Jack’s name came up as someone who was keen to travel and could play in the back five of the scrum.

“He has been playing under the coaching of Aaron Mauger (former All Black centre) for the past two seasons and has so far shown himself to be fairly quick.

“Part of the attraction for Jack is that, being the cousin of Will Rowley (ex-Watsonians), he knows a bit about Scotland.”

Heriot’s are still looking for their first win but Smith is 
refusing to press the panic button.

He said: “Our first four games are actually against the teams who finished in the top four last season so there is a bit of time on our side and I believe we are getting there.”
