Kings put one foot in the final after convincing victory

Edinburgh KINGS cruised to a 27-point win over Glasgow University in the first leg of basketball’s Scottish League Play-Off semi-final watched by only a handful of spectators at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena yesterday.

With Scottish international centre Simon Flockhart safely coming through his first game since injury, Kings look certain to qualify to meet Falkirk Fury in the final at the Lagoon Sports Centre a week on Saturday.

Fury too made the second leg almost a formality after beating Troon Tornadoes 66-39 in the first leg at Belmont Academy.

Lee Reilly led Kings with 24 points, Ed Rekis and Garreth Lodge added 14 points each and Paddy Campbell and Simon Flockhart eight apiece as Kings moved from a 39-27 half-time lead to win 81-54.

“That was a pretty turgid
affair,” admitted Kings coach Doug Reilly.

Al Alilovic with 23 and Calum Nicol with 15 led the students.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh Kool Kats have it all to do in the second leg of their semi-final against Glasgow Rocks on Sunday. Kats were 38-22 up at half-time at Portobello High School yesterday. By the end of the third quarter the lead was 49-43 and in the end they were happy to hold on for a
65-64 win. The sides meet again at St Maurice’s HS on Sunday. Hannah Peacock led Kats with 16 points and numerous rebounds, Shauna O’Connor added 15, Lauren Walker 13 and Tracey Phillips 12, while for Rocks Rona Corkindale had 17 and Ailidh Hood 16.

Polonia Phoenix can still reach the final after losing
56-50 to St Mirren in Paisley. The return is at the Crags on Sunday.
