Kings head west looking to win first leg of title showdown

Edinburgh Kings travel to Glasgow on Sunday to play Glasgow University in the first leg of the Scottish National Basketball League Senior Men’s Play-Offs semi-final.

The game takes place at the Kelvin Hall with a tip-off of 1pm as a prelude to Glasgow Rocks’ last BBL home game of the season against Durham Wildcats. St Mirren host Scots Cup winners Falkirk at Linwood on Sunday in their first leg semi-final.

Edinburgh Kool Kats play the second leg of their Scottish Women’s League Play-Offs semi protecting a six-point lead from the first leg against Polonia Phoenix at Portobello High (11.15am). In the second leg of the other semi, Glasgow Rocks will be hot favourites to progress against St Mirren at St Maurice’s High on Sunday (12.20) having established an advantage of 22 points from the first leg.

Scotland, meanwhile, finished runners-up to England in both men’s and women’s tournaments in the British Universities Home Nations Championships at Nottingham.

Tournament MVP Mark Reynolds with 12 points, former Edinburgh Kings junior Craig Nicol with 11, and Fraser Glass with ten points, led the scoring for Scotland’s men who gave a backs-to-the-wall performance against the champions before going down 78-46.

Edinburgh pair Sarah O’Brien with 16 points and Ali Mitchell with 12, together with a fine defensive effort from Hannah Rodgers (St Andrews), 15 points, helped Scotland to a 61-55 win over Northern Ireland.
