Kings' cup victory over local rivals

KINGUSSIE enjoyed the perfect warm-up to next weekend's MacTavish Cup final yesterday by sending rivals Newtonmore out of the Macaulay Cup 2-1.

Newtonmore drew first blood in 35 minutes through David Cheyne, but Ronald Ross pulled things level for Kingussie – who were without internationalist Ali MacLeod – before half time. In the second half, the sport's record scorer sealed Kings' place in the next round with the winner for a third victory over 'More this season.

Next week's opponents Kilmallie also got the boost they wanted, hammering title rivals Caberfeidh 5-0.
