Kings can savour Scottish derby clash in BBL Trophy

Scottish basketball champions Edinburgh Kings, who made history last season as the first non-league team to play in the BBL Cup, will next season be back in the BBL 
Trophy which they have played in previously and will again face Scotland’s only BBL club Glasgow Rocks.

Kings join two other 
non-league sides Reading Rockets and London Leopards and, together with the 13 BBL sides, that brings the entry up to 16.

But they are only guaranteed one game as the competition is reverting to a knockout formula after several years being played in groups with the winners then going forward.

Kings will have to wait till the festive season to play what should be an attractive Edinburgh-Glasgow derby as the dates allocated are between 
December 28 and January 6.

In previous years the games have been at the start of the season which gave the non-league sides such as the Capital club a slight advantage as it allowed them to play the full-time pro sides before they had fully 
integrated their new players. But there will be no such leeway this time though, apart from Scottish captain Gareth Murray, the Rocks have still officially to announce any 
signings for next season.

If they planned to re-sign Florida-reared guard-forward Danny Huffor, who made his Scotland debut alongside Murray in the European Championship for Small Countries in San Marino recently, they may have to have a rethink as Huffor had the misfortune to rupture his anterior cruciate ligament and could be out for six months.

Kings guard Lee Reilly, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury sustained in training, hopes to have his first game for the Great Britain Under-20 team in the Euro B Championship in Bulgaria tomorrow.
