Kelsey MacDonald tops Order of Merit

KELSEY MacDonald has capped a memorable season by adding the SLGA'S Order of Merit title to her national championship success at Craigielaw earlier in the year.

The 20-year-old Nairn Dunbar player claimed the crown ahead of last year's winner, Louise Kenney of Dunfermline, with Alford's Laura Murray taking third spot.

"I won the girls' (order of merit] title two years ago and this win is a reward for consistency," said MacDonald. "I have had a really busy season, so to be crowned the best overall in Scotland is a great honour."

In addition to her Scottish title triumph - she beat Kenney in the final - MacDonald also won the Scottish Under-21 Open Strokeplay Championship and reached the final of the British Amateur at Ganton.

She also proved to be a useful team player, helping Scotland win the Home Internationals for the first time since 1991 and leading the side to a bronze medal at the European Championship in Spain in July.

MacDonald amassed 2,900 points in counting events, Kenney finished on 2,380 points with Murray on 1,955.
