Johnston looks to new troops to take Tranent away from chasing pack

TRANENT boss Brian Johnston reckons two significant signings can help his side come out on top in a "mammoth" game in the East Region South League tomorrow.

Johnston bolstered his squad before the big freeze hit by signing former St Mirren striker Martin Cameron from Linlithgow and Paul Parkin, who has moved to Forrester Park on loan from Linlithgow, where he's been unable to get a regular game following his switch from Whitburn.

"Martin's commitment has been great since he came here and he's looking a lot sharper and fitter as well," said the Tranent manager. "He scored two goals in our last game against Stoneyburn (on 5 December], a match in which Paul Parkin also played after we managed to get him on loan from Linlithgow.

"I felt we were missing a natural left back and he's a player with a great pedigree and also has a good attitude."

The league leaders entertain third-placed Sauchie tomorrow. The hosts have picked up 24 points from their 13 matches so far while Sauchie are eight points adrift but have five games in hand. "It is a mammoth game for us," added Johnston. "I'm glad that we've played more games than other teams as they're going to be playing catch-up and, if we can this one, then it will pull us further away.

"It's great for us that we have ten home games to go and only three away and we've got not excuses as everyone is fit. In fact, some players won't even get stripped on Saturday."
