John Robertson attacks SPFL for treatment of '˜little old Inverness'

The Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss fumed that the club’s game at Queen of the South was not called off after the team were stuck in traffic for six hours on the A9 on Friday night as they travelled down for Saturday’s match.

A three-car crash, leaving a woman fighting for her life, on Friday afternoon near Blair Atholl in Perthshire. The road was closed on both carriageways for several hours.

Robertson made the point to SPFL secretary Iain Blair that his players only arrived at their hotel in Dumfries at 3am on Saturday morning and that they were visibly stressed.

In an interview with BBC Sportsound Robertson praised Queen of the South boss Gary Naysmith and the SPFL’s operations manager Anton Fagan but said that Blair insisted the game went ahead as normal.

The former Hearts striker felt that the decision was taken because it was “little old Inverness”, making the point that both Celtic and Rangers are allowed to postpone games for glamour friendly matches.

Robertson said: “We were told by Iain Blair by text that he wanted the game to go ahead regardless of our situation. It’s a very poor decision.

“If we don’t play, we get fined £10-15 grand. That’s the ludicrous part.

He added: “If he [Iain Blair] is ever sat on the A9 in a similar situation he might have some understanding. We were quite prepared that had the bus been in traffic at 12 [midnight], we were going to turn back at Pitlochry and head back up the road.”
