The 35-year-old Dornoch man, who secured his card for the PGA Tour’s feeder circuit by finishing 21st at the Qualifying School in December, will sport the company’s logo for the first time in this week’s $625,000 Panama Claro Championship in Panama City.

“It’s great to be part of an organisation that supports Scottish golfers,” said Gunn, who was disappointed that he missed out on an invitation for last year’s Scottish Open, especially after finishing in the top 30 in the US Open at Chambers Bay, but is hoping this tie-up will improve his chances of teeing up at Castle Stuart in July.

He joins Colin Montgomerie, Paul Lawrie, Russell Knox, Martin Laird, Marc Warren, Catriona Matthew, Kylie Walker, Pamela Pretswell and Carly Booth, among others, as an Aberdeen Asset Management golf ambassador.

“Being able to support Scottish golf across the board is a key focus for us here at Aberdeen so we are pleased to welcome Jimmy to our ambassador portfolio,” said chief executive Martin Gilbert.

“Having Jimmy playing in North and South America on a regular basis will allow us to expose our brand to a key target audience and we wish Jimmy all the best for the 2016 season.

“We are committed to helping Scottish golfers perform at the highest level. From our leading amateurs to professionals like Jimmy, it is important for us to maintain Scotland’s profile as the ‘Home of Golf’ within the global game.”
