JIM WEIR was last night appointed new Brechin City manager to succeed Jim Duffy.
The former St Johnstone captain and Hearts defender handed in his resignation at relegated Arbroath to pave the way for a switch to their Angus rivals.
Weir, twice previously in the frame for the Glebe Park post, has made it third-time lucky and brings his trusted assistant, Kevin McGowne, with him.
Brechin chairman Ken Ferguson has moved quickly after Duffy's exit last week to recruit the 40-year-old, who has beaten the likes of Paul Sheerin, Stevie Frail, Jim McInally and Ray Farningham to the job.
A Brechin statement said: "Jim starts the season with a good nucleus of players already committed to the club. As the club enters a new chapter, we look forward to what will be a very competitive season and the challenges this will bring"
Weir has now taken charge of three of the four Angus senior clubs.
