Jim Renner blazes trail to take early lead

Jim Renner claimed a one-stroke lead at the Travelers Championship after making a blazing start to his rain-delayed first round in Connecticut. The 27-year-old American shot a six-under 29 on his opening nine to race to the top of the leaderboard.

While Renner was only able to lower his score by a single stroke on his way back to the clubhouse, it was enough to keep him just ahead of five players at six-under. Ryan Moore and Andres Romero were among that group after completing opening-round 65s, while they had been joined by Webb Simpson, Vaughn Taylor and England's Brian Davis, who had begun their second rounds.

Davis completed a five-under par 66 yesterday morning before picking up a stroke on the opening hole of his second round.
