Jets next up for Edinburgh as treble bid gathers pace

City of Edinburgh open the second half of the Scottish volleyball season tomorrow with a match against Capital rivals Edinburgh Jets in the men’s Schelde Sports Scottish League. Edinburgh hold a five-point lead over Glasgow Mets, who have a match in hand, at the top of the table.

Having already won the John Syer Trophy, Edinburgh are bidding for the treble with the league and Scottish Cup also in their sights. The squad will also have taken heart from Scotland’s win at the Novotel Cup in Luxembourg last weekend with Mike Penny, Jamie McHardy and Niall Collin all involved.

Penny, at libero, drew special praise for his display in the decisive victory over England.

In the women’s First Division, City of Edinburgh also play Jets, who sit third in the table. Troon PA lead the league with a two-point advantage over City of Edinburgh.

Fifth-placed NUVOC travel to face North Lanarkshire, who sit just one place below them.

Meanwhile, six City of Edinburgh players (Gemma Ramsay, Katie Sampson, Sophie Hunter, Naomi Symonds, Katie Shaw and Becky Arthur) are in the Scotland team at this weekend’s European ‘C’ Championships in Malta.
