Jermaine Beckford opts to stay and help Leeds' promotion bid

LEEDS striker Jermaine Beckford has withdrawn his transfer request and will remain at Elland Road until the end of the season when his contract expires.

Leeds admit "several financial offers have been made" – the 26-year-old had been closely linked with a move to Coca-Cola Championship leaders Newcastle – but ongoing negotiations between Beckford and the club have resulted in him deciding to stay.

Beckford, who scored the winning goal in Leeds' recent FA Cup victory at Manchester United and has 20 goals to his name this term, said: "

I have decided I want to finish what I have been striving to do for the last two seasons – and that is to help promote Leeds United out of a division where the club doesn't belong."
