Jed-Forest’s 90-year wait is finally ended

JED-FOREST ended a barren spell at Gala going back to 1921 as the club forgot its disappointing league season and won the Five-Star Taxis Gala Sevens.

In a thrilling final on Saturday, in which the lead changed hands seven times, Jed finally triumphed 28-26 over Heriot’s FP.

Their performance showed that Jed will be the team to beat this season. “It is all credit to the boys. They put their bodies on the line,” said coach Kevin Amos.

Jed had pace players in the Young brothers, Lewis and Gregor, while Ross Goodfellow helped control the seven. Meanwhile, Heriot’s, who have fought their way back into the top flight of Scottish rugby, offered plenty of tough resistance.

In the final, the Young brothers were the Jed try scorers while Scott, Learmonth and Hill shared the Heriot’s tries.

Finally Melrose, Kings of the Sevens holders and Gala winners a year ago, failed to reach the semis following an exhausting win over Boroughmuir the previous night.
