James Ward's Eastbourne hopes ended by Janko Tipsarevic

BRITISH men's number two James Ward, a shock semi-finalist at Queen's Club last week, could not repeat those heroics as he exited in the first round of the Aegon International at Eastbourne to third seed Janko Tipsarevic.

The match had been suspended at one-set all on Tuesday but the Serbian hustled through the decider to complete a 6-3 4-6 6-2 win and take the final slot in the second-round draw.

Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria produced a second-round upset to beat South African sixth seed Kevin Anderson 6-3 6-2, while Italy's Andreas Seppi eased past American qualifier Donald Young 7-6 (7/1) 6-3. Lucky loser Illya Marchenko was also eliminated, the Ukrainian - who had replaced absent eighth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber - going down 6-3 1-6 6-2 to Russia's Igor Kunitsyn.

Meanwhile, Sam Querrey has withdrawn from Wimbledon with an arm injury, tournament organisers confirmed. The big-serving Californian complained of arm pain at Queen's Club last week where he was surprisingly beaten by Ward.

Querrey, ranked 40 in the world, won the Queen's tournament last year and went on to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon where he lost to Andy Murray. The American number three's place in the draw will go to a lucky loser from the qualifying tournament.
