Ireland to begin Lauder defence

Duddingston club manager Duncan Ireland will begin the defence of the Harry Lauder golf trophy at Portobello on Sunday, two decades after winning the first of his seven titles.

In last year’s final, Ireland outlasted 2010 champion Ian Randall (Silverknowes) at the third extra hole.

Host club champion John Ralston is expected to be a strong contender, while Haddington’s David Warner, the former Lothians’ boys champion, should also figure strongly.

Late entries are being accepted for an event dating back to 1924 . Call 669 4361.
