Inverleith on track but Stevie McCurry advises caution

AS INVERLEITH travel to Glasgow to face Greaves Clydesdale in the final round of fixtures before the winter shutdown in the Subway National League,

Inverleith coach Stevie McCurry believes “Clydesdale are a good side, well coached and yet to find form this season”.

McCurry had set a target to compete at the top end of the league and to date his team have most certainly accomplished that aim. They currently sit in fourth spot, however he cautioned: “We are only halfway through the season and we and the rest of the league are not quite at the level of Kelburne.”

It has been a disappointing season for the men from Titwood and Clydesdale coach Gordon Shepherd, whose team are down in eighth, summed it up by saying: “It is all about attitude as the pool talent cannot be questioned.”

Disappointed Western Wildcats coach Vishal Marwaha reflected “the winter shutdown is coming at the wrong time for us, as we have been on a great run” as they prepare for the visit of Cala Edinburgh, who have shown their ability to cope with the demands at the top level and are dangerous opponents for any team, despite losing their first encounter 4-2.

Bottom club VWS Dundee Wanderers entertain Edinburgh University, whose coach Graham Moodie will look for a positive response to a rare defeat by an inform Wildcats team. Securing the points would ensure the students go into the winter break in the top half of the table.

AMN Hillhead face the most daunting task of the day against a rampant, free-scoring Glynhill Hotel Kelburne team who continue to dominate the domestic scene. Hillhead have played some decent hockey but come off a run of three successive league defeats.

Second-placed Grange were due to meet Grove Menzieshill on Tayside, but work has begun to lay the new pitch at DISC and the game has been cancelled.
