Ice Hockey: Weekend double fires Capitals into sixth spot in league

EDINBURGH CAPITALS sit in joint-sixth spot in ice hockey’s Elite League after double success at the weekend.

The Murrayfield outfit beat Braehead Clan 4-2 at home last night to clinch their third consecutive league win. Rene Jarolin grabbed a treble against the Clan, who had twice pegged back the home side through Jade Galbraith and Matt Haywood. Tomas Valecko, on the power play, scored the other goal for Richard Hartmann’s side. The win takes Capitals on to 14 points alongside Braehead.

On Saturday, the Caps defeated Hull Stingrays 3-1 at Murrayfield. Jarolin fired the home side in front after four minutes before Valecko added a second.

The visitors pulled one back through Matt Davies only to see Peter Holecko restore the home side’s two-goal advantage in the last minute of the first period.
