Ice Hockey: Edinburgh Capitals need cash to fill import roster

CASH-STRAPPED Edinburgh Capitals have admitted they can only bring in a replacement for Lithuanian striker Darius Pliskauskas if a sponsor is found or their crowds improve.

Pliskauskas regained his fitness after being sidelined with a hand injury for over a month but was released by the Murrayfield-based Elite League club following the recruitment of Dan Welch and Marc Lefebvre.

Pliskauskas, who has been signed by English Premier League outfit Romford Raiders, scored four goals and recorded five assists in 17 games in his second spell with the Edinburgh club.

Welch has claimed six goals and ten assists in the same number of starts. Lefebvre has scored two goals and seven assists in 17 games but has proved a really hard worker for the team.

Doug Christiansen, Capitals' director of hockey, said: "Dan Welch and Marc Lefebvre have done really well for us since coming in and there was no room at the inn for Darius.

"This move is also about cutting costs and we can only go back to 11 imported players if we have new sponsorship or we see an increase on our crowds."
