Ice Hockey: Dundee do the double

DUNDEE Stars secured a double over basement rivals Edinburgh Capitals last night to move above the Murrayfield men in the race for the ice hockey's play-offs.

The Tayside team, who edged Capitals 4-2 at The Dundee Ice Arena on Friday, secured a 5-3 Elite League victory in Edinburgh. They led 2-0 after 13 minutes when Gary Wishart and skipper Brent Hughes found the net. Hard-working Nick Fanto pulled one back 70 seconds into the middle session but two goals in a minute were crucial.

Steve Makway fired home the first in the 24th minute and A J MacLean netted the second in the 25th. Mark Nebus scored Dundee's fifth in the 43rd minute.

Dundee's seventh win in 29 games takes them to 15 points, one ahead of Edinburgh, who have played a game fewer.
