Horse racing: Trainer’s Celebration of Musselburgh win

JULIE Camacho has a terrific strike-rate at Musselburgh and she kept her supporters happy again yesterday when Dubai Celebration landed division one of the Towergate Underwriting Handicap under Paddy Aspell.

The Malton trainer has now won with five of her 14 raiders in the past five years following this latest success of the 3-1 favourite, who saw off Jebel Tara by a length.

She said: “He used to be with Jedd O’Keeffe and only cost £800. He was a bit keen when he first came and we stepped him back up to a mile today and he saw it out well.”

Division two of the same race went to an even cheaper buy, Tony Hollis, who only cost £500 when Karen Tutty got the nod at Ascot Sales last month.

The ex-Rod Millman gelding came home a length and a quarter ahead of Goninodaethat under the Northallerton trainer’s daughter Gemma.

“He was cheap enough and we’ve been working him in a cross noseband at home over the past few days and it seems to have done the trick,” the winning handler said.

Centrifugal and Tussie Mussie completed a quick double for Mark Johnston and Joe Fanning while La Baccoutteuse took the Nairn’s Oatcakes Handicap under Garry Whillans for Iain Jardine.

“He’s won five races for us and I wish I had a stable full of horses like him,” the Hawick trainer said.

“I told Garry to be patient with him and once he hits top gear he stays on strongly.”

Meanwhile, Thought Worthy and Michelangelo appear likely to represent John Gosden in the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday week.

The Clarehaven trainer has a particularly strong hand for the Doncaster Classic this term, with Voltigeur winner Thought Worthy at the head of the queue.

He also has Gordon Stakes third Michelangelo and Bahrain Trophy winner Shantaram in contention, while Irish Oaks heroine Great Heavens and possible pacemaker Dartford still features among his five entries.

However, Gosden has indicated Great Heavens is more likely to head to Longchamp for the Prix Vermeille 24 hours later.

“There will be a pacemaker and two runners (in the Leger), I would have thought,” Gosden said. “There’s Thought Worthy, Michelangelo, Shantaram, who missed his prep race, so we know about that, and Great Heavens, who is probably more likely for the Prix Vermeille.

“Shantaram missed the Voltigeur and it may well come a week too soon. “There’s no point rushing him if he’s not ready, but we will wait and see.”
