Horse Racing: Ocean Bay ready to set sail for his second success on the all-weather

Ocean Bay can develop into a classy performer on the all-weather this winter and he can strike gold again at Wolverhampton in the Totequadpot Conditions Stakes (5.00pm).

John Ryan’s three-year-old enjoyed a decent juvenile campaign, registering his best effort in three starts when a close-up fifth in a Group Two race at Newmarket in June last year

He could not reproduce that kind of form in maiden company before his two-year-old season was cut short that July.

He returned in a Listed heat at Newmarket in October this year where his lack of race action really told. The gelding was struggling three furlongs out in that mile heat and eventually trailed home nearly 20 lengths behind the winner.

The outing obviously brought him on though as he dropped back to maiden company on his first all-weather start at Kempton on November 17, justifying his odds-on favourite tag with a stylish success, taking the lead two furlongs out and racing clear to finish first of seven.

That certainly was not a great race but he could do little more than win and Ocean Bay looks the sort to have plenty of progression to come.
