Horse racing: GrahamLee waits for scan result after dislocating hip in fall

GRAHAM Lee is waiting for the result of a scan to determine how long he will be on the sidelines after dislocating his hip at Southwell.

The injury occurred when he was unseated from the Ferdy Murphy-trained Rich Lord in the Win Whatever The Result With BetAngel Handicap Chase.

The leading jockey was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham and while he will certainly miss next month’s Cheltenham Festival and probably the rest of the season, the full extent of the damage is unclear. Lee’s agent, Richard Hale, said yesterday: “They put the hip back in under sedation and that went well. But he’ll have a scan today to find out whether there are any fractures or floating bone.

“If that was negative and there was nothing wrong there, then that would be good news. But if there is something there, he’s going to need an operation and that would make it a longer job Either way it is going to be slow. Even if there is no fracture, he is going to need a hell of a lot of physio.”

Meanwhile, Aidan Coleman will return to the saddle today after an unlucky sequence at Southwell. The rider gave up his last two rides at the Notts track on Wednesday and skipped yesterday’s action after falling twice.

His agent, Sam Stronge, said: “He’s going to return tomorrow. He was just very sore and Sam Thomas is taking his rides today. I think he got a bad kick after the first one and possibly a rap of the head, and it was just the accumulation of falls that left him sore.

“He’s keen to get back as he has a good book of rides this weekend.”
