Hockey: Weary Scots youngsters succumb to Austria

THE combination of travel problems and sickness took its toll on the Scotland under 21 squad as they drew 3-3 in the opening Test match against Austria in Vienna and lost the second Test 3-1.

The Scots opened brightly in the first game, scoring in five minutes through Callum Milne. Although the Austrians equalised with a penalty corner, Scotland restored the lead through Josh Cairns before John Harris put the Scots ahead 3-1. But with the onset of tiredness, the Scots allowed their hosts to score twice late on.

The Austrians were sharper in the second contest and stole into a 3-0 lead. The Scots' consolation goal came from Josh Cairns.
