Hockey: Scots endure tough tests in Germany tournament

THE Scotland Under-16 girls hockey team have had a tough few days in the Four Nations tournament in Germany.

They lost 10-1 to the hosts, while in their other matches at Mannheimer Hockey Club over the weekend they went down 11-0 to the Netherlands and 7-0 to Belgium.

There was small consolation for Kelso High School pupil Lucy Ramsay, who scored Scotland's only goal on what was her 15th birthday. Although the defeats were heavy, being exposed to that level of hockey will help the girls in the long term.

Meanwhile, there was a double triumph for the East District under-15 boys and girls in the inter-district competition at Peffermill.

In the girls competition, East's 1-0 win over South-West District in a round-robin format, courtesy of a strike by Lorna Cruikshank (George Heriot's), separated the sides by one point in the final standings.

East met West in the final of the boys competition following both sides' 100 per cent record leading up to the final. Two first-half goals, one converted by Lewis Rasmusen (Fettes College) and a Stuart Hatton (West Calder High School) finish were enough for the East to run out 2-0 winners.
