Hockey: Scotland call for Percy, Merchant

Western Wildcats' midfielder Steven Percy and Tom Merchant, who plays for Surbiton, are the new caps named by head coach Russell Garcia for Scotland's two Test matches against Spain in Cadiz on 21-22 January.

"I've been playing well for Wildcats this season and working hard on my game," said Percy. "The primary target for me is to play well in Spain and hopefully retain my place in the squad."

With the retiral of Mark Ralph and Vishal Marwaha, Garcia has given further experience to Glynhill Kelburne pair Josh Cairns and Michael Bremner, Russell Anderson of Brooklands and Grange's Callum Milne. There are also recalls for Inverleith defender Adam Mackenzie and Wei Adams, who has moved from Grange to AMN Hillhead.

Further space was made available in the squad following the two-match suspension imposed on Stephen Dick, Niall Stott, Derek Salmond and Cameron Fraser for returning to club action before the agreed rest period ended after the Commonwealth Games.

Striker Kenny Bain will remain in the Netherlands to play for his club side HDM while Olympic keeper Ali McGregor is unable to make the trip due to work commitments, so Anglos Jamie Cachia and Allan Dick will share duties between the posts.

Squad: J Cachia, R Stott (Bowdon), A Mackenzie (Inverleith), C Milne (Grange), I Scholefield, M Bremner, G Hall, J Cairns, C Nelson, W Marshall (Glynhill Kelburne), A Dick, C Grassick, T Merchant (Surbiton), S Percy (Western Wildcats), G Moodie (Edinburgh University), W Adams (AMN Hillhead) R Anderson (Brooklands).
