Hockey: Moodie looks for Scots to regroup after 6-1 hammering by Germans

SCOTLAND coach Graham Moodie last night remained
upbeat ahead of tomorrow’s EuroHockey Junior Championship clash with Spain.

The 2004 Olympian yesterday saw his Under-21 side slip to a 6-1 defeat to Germany in their opening game in Den Bosch, the Netherlands. They were 3-0 down at the break and went 6-0 behind before Clydesdale player Scott Lindsay netted two minutes from time. Moodie
admitted: “We competed well in spells but made too many basic
mistakes.”

Fraser Sands (Grange) was handed two yellow cards in the 29th and 36th minutes and this made it difficult against the slick German side who are ranked third in the tournament, four places above the Scots.

Germany scored after five minutes but the Scots held out until the 22nd minute before conceding again, both goals coming from penalty corners. They were 3-0 behind three minutes later and four behind two minutes into the second half. Eight minutes later it
became 5-0 from open play and it was 6-0 six minutes later
before Lindsay struck.

The Spaniards lost their first game 4-0 to Belgium.
