Hockey: Marriages of inconvenience rule out Harper and Kelly

PACE-SETTING Grange have two players missing for tomorrow's key hockey clash (2.45pm) with second-placed Western at Peffermill.

Player/coach Craig Harper and Martin Kelly are both at weddings arranged at a time when both thought the first-half of the season would be over.

Harper, however, believes the Edinburgh outfit can maintain their six-point gap at the top despite being under-strength.

The club's only points loss so far this season was in a 3-3 draw at Auchenhowie against Western who lead 3-0 at one stage and Harper said: "We've built a strong squad and the boys are capable of winning without Martin and myself. We both accepted the wedding invitations when we believed the league would be finished for the winter close down.

"It's up to the other boys to step up and we'd love to go into the break unbeaten."

Elsewhere, Inverleith are minus Andrew Johnston and Scottish John Harris for their trip to Titwood to take on third-placed Clydesdale. Inverleith have won their last two matches against Aberdeen and Hillhead but lost 3-1 at home to Clydesdale earlier this season.

Edinburgh University have a tough double-header, entertaining Wanderers tomorrow and travelling to Aberdeen for a crunch clash with their fellow-strugglers on Sunday.

The other fixtures tomorrow see Aberdeen host Hillhead while Menzieshill host champions Kelburne.
