Hockey: Mackenzie’s double blow

UNLUCKY Inverleith and Scotland hockey star Adam Mackenzie has been sidelined for several weeks after suffering a double fracture in his hand.

The tough-tackling defender was hit on the glove hand by a rasping shot from a Lille player only eight seconds from the end of Inverleith’s final game in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy at Napier University last weekend. Mackenzie collected his bronze medal but was then taken to St John’s Hospital, Livingston, for treatment. He returned on Monday to have the injury re-set.

The injury is a blow for fourth-placed Inverleith, who have 19 points from ten games, as the Edinburgh club restart their outdoor campaign on Saturday at bottom club Dundee Wanderers, who have a single point from 12 Division One league games so far.
