Hockey: Inverleith net Presidents Cup final slot

inverleith secured their place in the Presidents Cup yesterday – and their coach Steve McCurry says they’ll be going “all out” to win the trophy as well as the National League.

Inverleith defeated Grove
3-0 yesterday at Edinburgh Academy with Aidan Docherty and German defender Fabian Wolski scoring in the first ten minutes.

Paul Ritchie, with his first goal for three years, counted 13 minutes into the second half.

McCurry said: “It was a
game of two halves. We played well in the first but not in the second.

“The Presidents Cup is good preparation for the league but we’ll be going all out to win the cup on Sunday.”

A Graeme Campbell goal yesterday ended Edinburgh University’s hopes of making the final. The Hillhead player struck in the second-half to level after Jack Barnstock had opened the scoring in the opening period following a rebound from a penalty corner.

German forward Max Brors, whose goal beat Grange last Monday night, was missing
because of flu.

Graham Moodie, the students
player/coach, admitted: “It’s not all about one player. Yes we’re disappointed on
missing out on the cup final but we didn’t deserve to win.”
